Puppy
If you choose a puppy you have the oppurtunity to raise that puppy how you want. You can teach her right from the start how to behave and she will usually fit right into your lifestyle as it is all she knows. She won’t have had the chance to learn any bad habits from previous owners and will join your household fresh and eager to please.
On the other hand,a puppy is a dedication of time and training. She will not be able to be left alone for long periods of time. Toilet training is a time consuming, hit and miss business that can take months to perfect. You will need to be prepared for a little destruction during the teething period and you will need plenty of patience teaching and perfecting the basics; sit, stay, come etc.
Adult
If you choose an adult dog you are, for sure, offering a dog a second chance in a new loving home. You already know what size the dog is, he should already be house trained and will probably know the basic obedience commands.
As he is an adult dog and on as least his second home, you may not know what he has been through and if he has any problems.
