Group Obedience Classes

Next Class starting Monday morning 21st November 2011

Obedience training classes currently being held Saturday afternoons and weekdays.  New classes starting regularly.

Each block of  classes runs for 6 weeks and is held in Conil. Each class is once a week for one hour and there will be no more than six dogs per class. The cost of a block of six classes is €50.

All dogs of any age and size are welcome to attend. I don’t run specific puppy classes as I believe the sooner puppies come into contact and learn how to behave around adult dogs the better.

The classes are a relaxed and friendly, reward-based environment where you as a handler can learn how to work with and control your dog around other dogs, and where your dog can come to socialise and have fun!

Next Beginner’s Class starting November 21st at 10:o0am

Over the introductory (Beginners) six weeks we work on the following:

Sit
Down
Stay
Stand
Recall
Walk to heel
Eye contact
‘Leave it’ command
Being touched (useful for those dogs not good with being examined at the vets)

The initial course of six lessons covers the above to a basic level. You will then have the opportunity to sign up for a further six lessons to perfect and improve your dog’s obedience.

Further Training:

There is no limit to how far you and your dog can take training. Further classes cover distance control, send-away, drop on command, scent work, retrieve and more….

You will need:

Your dog!
Tasty treats (something soft and easy to eat eg. cooked chicken breast, hot dog) in very small pieces. Please no dry food, this tends to crumble and by the end of the hour all the dogs are spending more time hoovering up crumbs than listening to their handler!
Treat pouch, or similar, for the treats that leave both your hands free. (I have pouches available for sale)
Collar and lead (no choke chains, prong collars etc) No flexi leads.

Please make sure that your dog’s collar fits properly and that both the lead and collar are in good condition.

I will provide all other equipment such as long lines for those excercises that require them.

There will be drinking water available for the dogs.
